Nefazodone/Serzone
Nefazodone or most well-known as Serzone is an antidepressant that is normally prescribed to alleviate symptoms of depression like feelings of guilt or worthlessness, decreased sex drive, increased fatigue, difficulty concentrating, slowed thinking, suicidal thoughts and a lot more.
Basically, Serzone works on the chemical messengers on the brain – the norepinephrine and serotonin, that do actually have some role in the regulation of moods and some depressive behaviors.
Use of Serzone
As what aforementioned, Serzone is normally prescribed to alleviate or lessen symptoms of depression. For the same reason and purpose, it is also prescribed for some anxiety disorders that may or may not last for some time.
Possible Side Effects
Serzone is very capable of giving off of some side effects to its users. Normally, the side effects may just be less severe, not causing much on the patient. But at times, side effects may become severe or fatal, thus putting the patient on great trouble.
Usually, less severe side effects include:
- Excessive sweating
- Blurred vision
- Nausea
- Drowsiness
- Weakness
- Constipation
- Nightmares
- Sex drive or ability changes
- Dry mouth
- Skin become unusually more sensitive to sunlight
- Appetite or weight changes
- Frequent urination
- Difficulty in urinating
While severe side effects on the other hand include:
- Seizures
- Rash
- Fever
- Jaw, neck, and back muscle contractions
- Speech problems
- Clumsy walk
- Awful erections that last for more than 4 hours
- Uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Irregular heartbeat
Special Considerations and Warnings
Serzone has some adverse, serious reactions when actually combined with some drugs such as:
- onoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors like Marplan, Nardil, Emsam or Parnate
- Other drugs like Xanax, Hismanal, Propulsid, Orap, or Seldane
More or less if you are taking any drugs mentioned above, your doctor will indeed spare you from taking Serzone or sometimes advise you to at least intend some time before starting either of the drugs.
Similarly, if you drink alcohol often, more or less, you will be advised to keep yourself away from any alcoholic drink if you want to use Serzone.
Serzone on Pregnancy Issues
If you are pregnant, thinking to become pregnant, or a nursing mother, it is naturally not advisable for you to take a powerful drug like Serzone, unless there’s a valid reason and need as well.
According to some studies, newborns or infants exposed to antidepressants are more likely to develop some problems on breathing, skin color and the like, that’s why doctors do not prescribe Serzone, an antidepressant, that easily.
